Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told participants that the program was the first major event of the Month for the Poor 2019 which began on Wednesday and will end on November 18. He called on every individual, organization, and sector to work together to improve the lives of poor people, particularly those in rural, remote, mountainous and ethnic minority-inhabited areas.
Mr. Phuc said: “The Government will strongly and effectively implement the national program on sustainable poverty reduction and will continue to prioritize resources to help the poor. We are looking forward to great support from organizations, businesses, and individuals both inside and outside Vietnam and the courage of poor people to tackle hard circumstances.”
This year’s program raised nearly 40 million USD for the fund “For the Poor” and Vietnam’s social welfare program. As of 10 p.m. on Thursday, 220,000 USD had been collected via text messages to the National Humanitarian Portal 1400.
