(VOVworld)- Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations on Sunday took over the UN Security Council presidency from the Republic of Korea. Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told reporters at UN headquarters that the Security Council’s schedule will be busy and intense. He said the June agenda will include open debates on new trends in UN peacekeeping activities, noting that peacekeepers will be getting new technologies such as unarmed drones.
Although the UN Security Council has not scheduled any separate talks on Ukraine, Churkin did not rule out that they might be held. Churkin said during Russia’s presidency, the council will hold debates on a number of Middle East countries including Yemen and Libya. He stressed that every Security Council member has the right to call a Security Council meeting on any situation which poses a threat to international peace and security.
