(VOVworld) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia and South Korea have reaffirmed commitment to the goal of denuclearization of Korean peninsula and both countries will not accept the self-proclaimed nuclear status of North Korea after his talk with South Korea Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se in Moscow on Monday.

Sergei said that Russia will pursue the full implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2270 adopted in March to curb Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs. He said it is unacceptable to turn the Korean peninsula into a place of confrontation and that all disputes should be resolved through negotiations.
Yun Byung-se’s visit is the first visit by South Korean Foreign Minister to Russia over the past 5 years. Seoul’s officials considered it an opportunity to make diplomatic efforts to pressure Pyongyang to end its nuclear programs.
