The Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries has suggested local administration guide farmers on more effective aquatic production, applying science and technology, and selecting appropriate species of lower cost but higher quality to serve both the domestic market and export.

Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries: “The Directorate will keep the public up-to-date about the market, the balance between demands and supplies, and Vietnam’s production capacity. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will discuss with local authorities the development of the shrimp and tra fish sectors to devise the best possible production plan, helping farmers revive production for both domestic consumption and export.”

According to the Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries, the tra fish sector can capitalize on the current price hike of other white fish, which forces EU processors to buy tra fish for replacement. Vietnam’s tra fish exported to the European market is given a zero tariff thanks to the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement.
