(VOVworld) – Greece has set September 20 for its general election,
according to a presidential decree issued on Friday. President Prokopis
Pavopoulos signed a decree to dissolve the parliament on Friday and set
time for the snap election. The first session of the new parliament is
scheduled for October 1. The official declaration of early national
polls came eight days after the resignation of the eight-month Leftist
government of former Prime Minister Alexi Tsipras and the appointment of
a caretaker administration under the Greek constitution. The caretaker
government under Supreme Court head Vassiliki Thanou, who on Thursday
became Greece's first female premier, was sworn in earlier on Friday.
