Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Indonesian Minister Retno Marsudi urged an unofficial meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers to facilitate a constructive exchange of views and identify a possible way forward.
Balakrishnan urged all parties to exercise restraint and take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation.
Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah also supports the idea of holding an emergency meeting on developments in Myanmar. Indonesian President Joko Widodo echoed the idea at a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin earlier this month.
