Somalia’s al-Shabaab fire mortars at presidential palace
(VOVworld) - Somalia's al-Shabaab militants said they fired mortars at the presidential palace in the capital Mogadishu on Thursday, killing 1 security guard. An Al-Shabaab spokesman confirmed the attack, saying several mortar rounds landed inside the palace. Security official Abdirahman Mohamed said at least four mortar rounds struck the parking area where the guard was killed. The police are investigating who was behind the attack and where the mortar shells were fired from.

Last week, al-Shabaab militants carried out two suicide bomb attacks at a hotel close to the presidential palace, killing at least 25 people. Al-Shabaab is targeting government officials and lawmakers because they permitted the deployment of foreign troops in Somalia.
