(VOVWORLD) -Storm Noul on Friday morning made a landfall on Vietnam’s central coastal provinces before weakening into a tropical depression.

Sweeping through Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue provinces, the storm killed 1 person, injured 29 others, and damaged more than 1,700 houses. Many trees have fallen. Electric poles have been broken and blackouts were reported in some areas.
Major Tran Ba Huong, Chief of Police of Phong Dien town, Thua Thien Hue province, said: “The wind speed was very high. This storm was destructive. Trees along the National Highway 1A are broken, affecting traffic safety and causing traffic jams on the National Highway as well as main roads of Phong Dien town. Currently, the security force has been deployed to the maximum together with the militias and civilians to clean up the roads.”

In Hoi An city, heavy rain inundated many streets. Restaurants, hotels and resorts along Cua Dai beach were eroded by high tide.
Localities are calculating damage and accelerating recovery efforts. The Vietnam Red Cross on Friday said that it is ready for an emergency situation as 600 home repair kits, 480 filtered water bottles, 1,600 household boxes and 30,000 disinfection tablets are on standby to help those affected by natural disasters.
