Swedish comedy “The square” wins top Cannes prize
(VOVWORLD) - A Swedish satire called “The Square”, directed by Ruben Ostlund, won the Palme d'Or at the 70th Cannes film festival on Sunday. It was a rare and somewhat surprising win for a comedy.

A Stockholm museum filled with pretentious conceptual art is at the center of “The Square”. The story goes off on a search by the museum's curator for his stolen mobile phone which reveals the "dictatorship" of political correctness and those trapped by it.
Diane Kruger won a Best Actress award with her first film role as a devastated mother who has lost her husband and son in “In the Fade”. Three-time Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix nabbed Best Actor for his turn as a hammer-wielding hitman in “You Were Never Really Here”. The runner-up Grand Prix went to the French drama “120 Beats Per Minute”, about AIDS activists who shame the world into action. Nicole Kidman, who appeared in four different films at this year’s festival, received a special 70th anniversary prize.
