(VOVworld) – Swiss people on Sunday voted to make it easier for “third-generation foreigners” to get Swiss citizenship. This is a defeat for the right-wing nationalists, who are concerned about giving more rights to immigrants, especially who are Muslim.

Public broadcaster RTS and national news agency ATS both reported that the "Yes" campaign won by a 59% majority of Swiss votes, and a victory in a majority of Switzerland’s 26 cantons, meeting the two criteria needed for a win.
The constitutional amendment simplifies the citizenship process for applicants aged 25 or less who were born in Switzerland, attended school there for at least five years, share Swiss cultural values, speak one of Switzerland’s four national languages, and do not depend on state aid.
