(VOVworld) - The Thai Criminal Court today began examination of direct and circumstantial evidence presented by state prosecutors against 98 yellow shirt protesters who laid siege to Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi airports during anti-government protests in 2008.

Among the 98 defendants are Sondhi Lumthongkul and Chamlong Srimuang, leaders of the defunct People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD). They were charged with terrorism, illegal assembly, and disturbing the peace and order of the country.
Sondhi and Chamlong led protesters to seize the two airports during an anti government protest. 88 defendants, including Major General Chamlong, Kasit Bhirom, Somsak Kosaisuk attended the court session.
The court set October 20 for the first hearing of the plaintiff’s witnesses. The Civil Court had earlier ordered defendants in the case to pay a combined compensation of 600 million baht (16.7 million USD) to the Airports of Thailand for damages caused to the airports during the protests.
