Thai media hail Vietnam as APEC 2017 host
(VOVWORLD) - The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting hosted by Vietnam next week attaches great economic and strategic significance amid a changing world, cited in an article run by the Bangkok Post on Tuesday.
The article pointed out four of Vietnam’s key objectives for the mega-event, which are seizing the meeting opportunities with APEC leaders to make the cooperative process more effective; reducing trade barriers and increasing investment liberalization; promoting bilateral trade to expand its exports and attract foreign investment; and transforming Da Nang into a destination linking Southeast Asia to the rest of the world.
As APEC host, Vietnam is expected to push negotiations between 11 TPP countries, seeking more commitment to the trade pact without US participation. The article stressed that success of APEC meetings would enhance Vietnam's leading role at the ASEAN summit. Vietnam is preparing for its ASEAN chairmanship in 2020 to ensure a key role and external relations.
