(VOVworld)- Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that the people who conducted the coup to oust her brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, in 2006 realize that a coup cannot resolve any issues.
Yingluck issued the statement after protestors called for the military to help them oust the current government. The 2006 coup preceded a period of instability and protests that have turned violent during lately. Thai leaders have avoided confronting the protestors, except for assigning unarmed troops to protect government buildings. The Red Shirt movement supports the Thai government and the upcoming general election and warns that the protestors have undermined Thailand’s democracy and wanted to turn it into a “totalitarian dictatorship”
