Thai Prime Minister pledges safety after bomb explosions
(VOVworld) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has called on people to stay calm and ordered tighter security across urban areas and tourist sites and assured safety for embassies, consulates, and foreigners in Thailand.

Speaking on a special TV show on Friday, Prime Minister Prayut said the bomb explosions showed that there are still bad people in Thailand who have been acting to undermine the referendum and now destroy people’s special festival, the Queen’s birthday. He also asked the people not to put so much pressure on the authorities, promising that the government will update the investigation progress.
Earlier, Thai media quoted Thai national police chief Chakthip Chajinda, saying the bomb explosions in 5 provinces are linked to the separatist groups opposing the August 7 referendum. Thai police ruled out any involvement of international terrorist, saying the incident is an act of stirring up public disturbance.
At least 11 bomb blasts occurred in 5 Thailand’s southern provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 4 people and injuring dozens of others including foreigners. Around 20 embassies in Thailand gave travel warnings to their citizens.
