(VOVworld) – Thai authorities on Tuesday began clearing 5 sites illegally occupied by anti-government protesters.

Chalerm Yubamrung, Director of the government security operations centre, said this campaign is not disperse demonstrators but to “take over” the sites the protesters occupy in violation of an emergency decree. The operation will be carried out at all the sites or just some of the sites depending on the number of demonstrators, their reactions, and the actual situation. One of the five sites is the Prime Minister’s Offices where protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Monday has his supporters build blockades and concrete barriers to prevent the Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from returning to work. Suthep also declared a plan to bring an additional 2,000 protesters to encircle the area near the Prime Minister’s Offices, but said they will not attack inside the area.
