(VOVworld) - Thailand’s opposition leader and former prime minister urged the government to delay the July 20th elections and let an interim administration carry out reforms as part of a plan to break the country’s political stalemate.

Abhisit Vejjajiva on Saturday suggested that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her cabinet resign, allowing an interim cabinet to oversee a referendum on reforms before the new elections to be held within 5 or 6 months later. Vejajiva said the elected government should stay in power for only one year to implement the reforms, noting that his proposal would prevent escalating violence in the country.
