The British Home Secretary won 165 votes, followed by Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom with 66 votes. Justice Secretary Michael Gove got 48 votes, beating Pensions Secretary Stephen Crabb with 34 votes and former Defence Secretary Liam Fox with 16. The race was reduced from five to three candidates as the last-placed candidate, Fox was eliminated from the first round of voting and Crabb dropped out. Both of them lent their wholehearted support to Theresa May.
The final result of the race to succeed David Cameron as UK Prime Minister will be announced on September 9 this year.
