Guterres said he is seriously concerned about the Maldives’ escalating situation, particularly its declaration of a state of emergency and security forces march into the Supreme Court headquarters.
Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on Monday declared a 15-day state of emergency. He ordered the arrest of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, and Judge Ali Hameed, accusing them of a coup attempt against him.
