UN reports on Syria’s chemical weapon use
(VOVworld) – Chemical weapons were used 5 times during the Syrian conflict, and in a number of cases children were killed. This was confirmed in a final report submitted by UN inspectors to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday. The report cited credible evidence for the probable use of chemical weapons at 5 out of 7 sites in Syria.

In his address, Ban called the use of chemical weapons “a grave violation of international law and an affront to our shared humanity. The secretary general also said he urged the whole world “to remain vigilant to ensure that these awful weapons are eliminated, not only in Syria, but everywhere."
The report is being sent to members of the Security Council who will work on it next week.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad earlier admitted that his government was equipped with chemical weapons. The president said Syria is committed to transferring all the arms to experts. However, he denied the accusations that his army attacked civilians and that his administration was behind chemical attacks.
