UN Security Council discusses latest development in Russia-Ukraine conflict

(VOVWORLD) - The  UN Security Council on Tuesday discussed developments in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The session took place at the request of the Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations.

Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya said that Moscow proposed the session because of the risks of Russia-related misinformation to international peace and security, adding that a lasting and sustainable peace in Europe cannot be built on such misinformation.

The representative of Mozambique, which holds the presidency of the Security Council in March, warned that the use of inflammatory language by the parties involved will only escalate the current conflict and make the prospect of peace  more fragile.

Representatives of the Maltese and Chinese delegations called on the international community to support the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
