(VOVWORLD) - UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam Michael Croft has hailed Vietnam’s significant progress in improving the quality of education and lifelong learning over the past decade. Mr. Croft made the remark on the occasion of International Literacy Day (ILD), September 8.

UNESCO is committed to continuing to support Vietnam in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 on lifelong learning and building a learning society, he said. This includes recommendations and technical assistance to build effective, inclusive lifelong learning policies and systems, and promote learning cities and learning societies, including the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network.
Since it was first announced by UNESCO in 1966, International Literacy Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of literacy and inspiring efforts to raise literacy levels globally.
