Lieutenant General Jerry Martinez told a news conference in Yamaguchi Prefecture that the US forces in Japan will remain as strong as they have ever been and the outcome of the US Presidential election will not affect the alliance between the two countries.
Concern is growing in Japan about how the alliance will be affected by the presidency of Trump, who has called for Japan and other US allies to pay more of the cost of stationing US forces there and has even threatened to pull troops out of those countries unless they pay.
