(VOVworld) – On Sunday, the US Department of State extended its condolences to the victims of the two bombings in Baghdad and condemned the attacks.

State Department spokesman John Kirby said the US will maintain a close contact with Iraqi authorities and stands committed to supporting Iraqi security forces.

A car bomb went off on a crowded street of Karada district, South Baghdad, killing dozens of people. Another bombing occurred near Shallal market, East Baghdad. The latest figures released by Iraqi officials are 120 people killed and 200 wounded in the two attacks.

The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the Karada attack. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the second attack.
