US, Japan, South Korea consider further sanctions against North Korea

(VOVworld) - The US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia Daniel Russel said on Tuesday that the US, Japan, and South Korea have been working to cut off North Korean revenue streams from coal and overseas workers, and are considering further joint action after Pyongyang's latest nuclear test in September.

He said the three countries had been making progress in key areas, including disrupting North Korea's arms trade and de-flagging North Korean ships. Discussions are also under way on a possible new UN sanctions resolution. Russel is confident that the agreement will be reached. He said the US will speed up deployment of its THAAD anti-missile system to South Korea given the pace of North Korea's missile tests, and it will be stationed there as soon as possible.
