(VOVWORLD) - A reception to mark the 25th anniversary of the Vietnam-US diplomatic ties was held at the US State Department’s headquarters on Friday (local time).

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc and Allison Hooker, Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council, exchanged congratulatory letters of Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Donald Trump.
Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs David Stilwell reaffirmed US’s policy of respecting comprehensive partnership with Vietnam and working with Vietnam to maintain peace, stability, cooperation, and law-based order in the Indo-Pacific region. The US diplomat said achievements over the past 25 years will motivate a reliable partnership between the two countries.
Vietnamese Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc said the strong and steady partnership between Vietnam and the US have helped boost Vietnam’s socio-economic growth but also contributed to peace, stability, cooperation, and law enforcement in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. Both countries have tremendous potential to raise bilateral ties to a new level.
Ambassador Ngoc and Assistant Secretary of State Stilwell witnessed the signing of an agreement to officially establish the Peace Corps program in English education in Vietnam.
Secretary of State Michael Pompeo issued a press statement on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and Vietnam, highlighting important achievements in bilateral ties.
