(VOVworld) – The US has urged China to stop implementing its Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) over the East China Sea, saying its unilateral act was fueling the tension in North East Asia. White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters on Thursday that China’s announcement of the ADIZ is “unacceptable” and “dangerous”, and may cause a regional crisis. Carney reiterated US opposition to the zone, adding that America would not alter its military operations in the region. He urged China to refrain from similar actions in the region and work with other countries, including Japan and South Korea, on confidence-building measures, including emergency communications channels, to address the dangers resulting from the zone’s establishment.

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee also sent a letter to the Chinese Ambassador, demanding the zone be rescinded. Senators in their letter considered China’s recent acts to be threats to Washington’s key interests and among the reasons for mutual misunderstanding among countries.
