Vanuatu’s leaders praised the role and position of Vietnam regionally and globally and expressed their hope of teaming up with Vietnam in new areas, especially climate change response and health in addition to their traditional cooperation in agro-forestry-fishery, trade-investment, tourism, and human resource development.

Ambassador Thanh held meetings with several Vanuatu ministries. Foreign Minister Jotham Napat suggested the two countries consider visa exemptions for each other's citizens to promote trade, investment, and tourism.

Minister of Agriculture Nako Natuman said he hopes Vietnam will share its wet rice cultivation experience to help Vanuatu ensure food security.

Vietnam and Vanuatu set up diplomatic relations in 1982 as soon as Vanuatu gained independence.
