Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang told the press on Thursday that all foreign activities in waters under Vietnam’s  national sovereignty and jurisdiction must be in line with Vietnamese law, international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Vietnam asked China to halt and not repeat activities complicating the situation in the East Sea. The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry exchanged with the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi to make clear Vietnam’s stance on Thursday.

The spokeswoman also expressed deep concern over Pyongyang’s ballistic missile launch over Japan on August 29, seriously violating resolutions of the UN Security Council and worsening regional tensions. Vietnam consistently supports efforts to promote dialogue and maintain peace and stability on the Korean peninsula. Vietnam urges parties to respect UN Security Council resolutions in earnest and conduct constructive and practical moves for peace, stability and security in the region and the wider world.
