Vietnam attends UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva

(VOVworld)- The 25th summit and annual session of the UN Human Rights Council opened in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh leads a Vietnamese delegation attending the event. This is the first time that Vietnam has attended the Council’s summit since its admission to membership last November. High on the agenda of the session are the performance of the council, the protection and promotion of immigrants’ rights, the rights of the disabled, the operation of a civil society, children’s rights and the prevention of genocidal crimes. As a member of the Human Rights Council, Vietnam will closely work with member countries to contribute to ensuring and promoting human rights. In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh will also share Vietnam’s priorities in human rights in the years to come and outline its consistent policy for boosting cooperation and constructive dialogues at the UN Human Rights Council. Marking the occasion, Minh will meet with the Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua Milano, Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Hirotaka Ishihara and the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Anders Johnson.
