Vietnam, Australia sign Joint Vision Statement on Further Defense Cooperation
(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese and Australian Defense Ministers have signed a Joint Vision Statement on Further Defense Cooperation during the Vietnamese high-ranking defense delegation’s visit to Australia this week.
During talks on Thursday, both sides discussed cooperation in exchanges of visits, dialogues and training, UN peace keeping activities, anti-terrorism and safe flights. Vietnam expects Australia’s support in its military and defense events in 2020 during Vietnam’s ASEAN chairmanship and called for its implementation of bombs and mines clearance efforts. Vietnamese Defense Minister Ngo Xuan Lich and his Australian counterpart Christopher Pyne also discussed opportunities for enhancing defense cooperation and praised the importance of addressing disputes through the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea as well as aviation and navigation safety and freedom.
