(VOVWORLD) - Thailand believes that Vietnam will perform well in its roles as both ASEAN Chair for 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Suriya Chindawongse, Director-General of the Thailand Foreign Ministry’s Department of ASEAN Affairs told VOV that Thailand supports the theme for the ASEAN Year 2020 as “Cohesive and Responsive”. Thailand and other ASEAN countries during a recent ministerial meeting in Nha Trang city affirmed their support for Vietnam to strengthen the ASEAN role in the region, said Chindawongse.
He added Vietnam has a good opportunity to influence and resolve global issues, help ASEAN realize its goals, and reinforce the presence of ASEAN in the United Nations. Vietnam is a shining example of sustainable development, suggesting that Vietnam focus on its cooperation with the UN this year, he noted.
