Mr. Quy affirmed the importance of promoting commitments of the Berlin Conference on Libya sponsored by the UN Security Council in its Resolution 2510. He acknowledged the August 21 statements by involved parties, but called on them to end their hostilities and resume peace negotiations. Ambassador Quy praised efforts by the UN, the UNSMIL, Libya's neighbors, and regional organizations to promote peace in Libya, and highlighted the importance of complying with the UNSC's weapons embargo and ending external interference. He said Vietnam supports UNSMIL activities and the extension of the UNSMIL mandate for an additional 12 months, as well as the early appointment of a Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya.
