Vietnam, Cambodia strengthen cooperation
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam wants to tighten cooperation with Cambodia in coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said at a reception in Hanoi on Saturday for her Cambodian counterpart Samdech Heng Samrin, who led a high-ranking delegation to pay homage to former Party leader Le Kha Phieu.

Ms. Ngan thanked Cambodian officials for sending their condolences and attending Party leader Le Kha Phieu’s funeral service. She said the actions reflect the friendship between the two parties, states, and people, and Cambodia’s love for former Party leader Le Kha Phieu.
Former Party leader Le Kha Phieu has greatly contributed to Cambodia’s development and the bilateral relationship. Vietnam vowed to do its utmost to maintain and nurture Vietnam-Cambodia ties, Ms. Ngan said.
At the reception, Ms. Ngan suggested that the two countries continue to cooperate closely in pandemic prevention, not to let the disease spread in the community and to maintain Vietnam-Cambodia cross-border trade. She said that the ratification of the 2019 Supplementary Treaty and the Protocol on border demarcation, covering 84% of the borderline, is a very important foundation for a border of peace, friendship, and sustainable cooperation. Ms. Ngan said she hopes that the two countries’ National Assemblies will continue to support the two governments to closely coordinate in refuting reactionary distortion against the border demarcation.
Ms. Ngan asked Cambodia to continue to support ASEAN’s common stance, help Vietnam fulfill its responsibilities as ASEAN Chair, AIPA 41 Chair in 2020, and UN Security Council non-permanent member for 2020-2021.
