Vietnam celebrates 43rd Reunification Day

(VOVWORLD) -Ho Chi Minh City on Monday hosted meetings and art programs to mark the 43rd  anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification.

A singing and dancing performance called “Saigon glory” was underway in Dam Sen Park, recreating the historic moment when the south was totally liberated. Municipal museums are holding exchanges with witnesses and exhibitions on the Vietnamese struggle for national liberation and reunification.

A trans-national cycling tournament wrapped up in Thong Nhat hall on Monday, the Reunification Day. Special art performances were held in Nguyen Hue pedestrian streets on Monday night, in addition to two 15-minute fireworks displays which brightened up the city’s sky.

Kim Lien relic site, the home village of President Ho Chi Minh, welcomed thousands of visitors. Nguyen Dang Dung, a visitor from Da Nang, said: “I am very proud to return to this historical relic site associated with President Ho Chi Minh’s harsh period. My relatives and I visit his home village to study his sacrifices for the nation.”

Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee hosted a festival on national reunification with a flag hoisting ceremony. It was followed by cultural and sport events such as Bai Choi singing and boat racing on Ben Hai River. Nguyen Duc Trung, a war veteran, who fought in the Hien Luong borderline, said “I am very happy and cannot hold back my tears when I see our flag being hoisted. Many people came here to attend the ceremony.”

Vietnam’s Reunification Day was marked abroad. The Vietnamese Embassy in China hosted an art and sports program in Beijing, while the Vietnamese Students’ Sports Festival was held in Moscow. The Vietnamese Embassy and community in Mozambique organized a ceremony to mark the 43rd Reunification Day.
