Vietnam chairs first meeting of ASEAN Committee in New York
(VOVWORLD) - The first meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee was held in New York on Friday, focusing discussion on activities and priorities of ASEAN member states this year.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese permanent mission to the United Nations (UN), chaired the event. Countries affirmed to support Vietnam to assume successfully the role of ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020 and United Nations Security Council (UNSC)’s Presidency in January 2020. They agreed to continue promoting the image and active engagement of ASEAN in the UN.
Participating nations highly appreciated Vietnam’s initiative of organising a meeting on cooperation between ASEAN and the UN in maintaining international peace and security for the first time in January 2020. They were unanimous to continue carrying out traditional activities of ASEAN Committee such as the ASEAN Family Day and ASEAN Day to strengthen solidarity between member countries as well as promote cooperation and friendship between ASEAN and partners.
