The Nagorno-Karabakh region is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but is controlled by ethnic Armenians. This has resulted in a territorial war between the two countries, which peaked between 1988 and 1994. Fierce fighting broke out again in the region last Sunday.
Spokesperson Hang told reporters on Friday:“Vietnam is concerned over the conflict. We support reconciliation efforts by the OSCE Minsk Group and call for restraint by both sides to de-escalate tensions in the interest of their peoples and to resolve the dispute by peaceful means on the basis of international law”.
