(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam condemns all terrorist attacks and acts of extreme violence in Iraq, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN, said during an online meeting of the UN Security Council Tuesday with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, special representative and head of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq.

Ambassador Quy praised the Iraqi government’s efforts and recent progress, but expressed concern over the security situation in Iraq. He said Iraq’s upcoming elections should be free and fair, and include women and young adults.
He called on the international community to honor its commitments to support Iraq and respect its political independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.
Vietnam, he said, urges closer co-operation between Iraq and Kuwait in searching for Kuwaiti and other foreign nationals who have gone missing in Iraq, and returning Kuwaiti property in line with UNSC Resolution 2107.
