(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday sent a congratulatory message to Theresa May on her new post as Prime Minister of the UK.  The same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent congratulations to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
Theresa May, a former Home Secretary, was named new Prime Minister by Queen Elizabeth on Wednesday. The Queen asked Mrs. May to set up a new cabinet.

In her first speech, Mrs. May said she will continue to champion social justice and her new cabinet will operate in the public interests, not in the interest of a few privileged people.

Mrs. May said she will think about ordinary people when she has to make a major decision and will give them more autonomy. Prime Minister May pledged to a new positive role for Britain in the world and outside the EU.

In her sworn in address, Mrs. May praised her predecessor who helped to stabilize the British economy.

Just over an hour after entering her new office, she announced the list of a new cabinet. London Mayor Boris Johnson was appointed as Foreign Secretary, and Philip Hammond is to take charge of the Finance Minister. Amber Rudd, who backed the campaign to stay in the EU and was the former Energy Secretary, will become the new Home Secretary.   

The new PM made David Davis, a prominent Leave campaigner, has been made Secretary of State for Exiting the EU.

Liam Fox, another senior Brexit supporter, was made International Trade Secretary and Michael Fallon remains as Defense Secretary.

The same day, Mrs. May also had phone conversations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, during which she said her cabinet needed time to prepare for negotiations on the UK leaving the EU. Jean Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, called on Mrs. May not to delay talks for taking the UK out of the bloc.
