Vietnam ensures sufficient energy for economic growth
(VOVWORLD) - The Electricity of Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are promoting the use of renewable energy to serve economic growth in the face of exhausted hydro power and harmful thermal energy.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Electricity Vo Quang Lam said Vietnam could become the world’s solar powerhouse when a number of projects will be operational in the near future: "As of May 30, 47 solar power projects with a total capacity of 3,200 MW were connected to the national grid. By the late June, other 49 projects with a capacity of 2,600MW will be put into operation which means we have approximately 5,000 MW in a short time. The EVN has signed power purchasing contracts with 200 investors, set up working groups in the regions with solar power projects: south-central, central highlands, and southwestern region. We have set up a website to enable investors to closely follow the development of solar power projects.”
Mr. Lam said Vietnam will take a number of measures to avoid system overloads and invest more in transformers and networks.
