Vietnam marks Day for Agent Orange/dioxin victims
(VOVWORLD) - More than 5,000 people took part in a walk in HCM city on Saturday to raise funds for Agent Orange/dioxin victims.
Pham Thi Thu Thuy, a local student, said she feels honored to join the event which commemorates Day for Agent Orange/dioxin victims, August 10.
“I have participated in the walk for 10 years. I hope to become a teacher to help disadvantaged people,” she said.

The southern province of Binh Duong is pushing up a campaign to collect 1 million signatures in support of Ms. Tran To Nga and her lawsuit against the manufacturers of dioxin-containing defoliants used by the US during the Vietnam war.
“The young people have strongly supported the lawsuit. They are well aware of the sufferings of Agent Orange victims,” said Ms. Nga.
For the occasion, Agent Orange/dioxin victims in the northern province of Ninh Binh and the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang have received free health check-ups or scholarships.
The US army sprayed some 80 million liters of toxic chemicals, 61 percent of which was Agent Orange containing 366 kilograms of dioxin, over nearly one quarter of the total area of South Vietnam from 1961 to 1971. 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to AO/dioxin, and about 3 million became victims
