Vietnam observes International Day for Disaster Reduction

(VOVworld) – A meeting to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction (October 13th) took place in My Tho City, Tien Giang province, on Monday. Danang city and Thanh Hoa province were also chosen as hosts of meetings to mark this year’s event. Themed “The elderly with disasters: Resilience for Life”, this year’s event aims at highlighting the role old people play in responding to disasters and contributing to the implementation of The National Strategy on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Le Van Nghia, Vice Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People’s Committee, said Tien Giang will give priority to integrating disaster management into local socio-economic development plans. The province will accelerate the application of science and technology in natural disaster mitigation and intensify communications activities to raise public awareness on climate change adaptation.
