Vietnam recommends boosting Mekong-Japan cooperation
(VOVWORLD) - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son delivered a statement at the virtual Mekong-Japan Ministerial Meeting, chaired by Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. Attending the meeting was Foreign Ministers of Mekong countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.

Minister Son hailed Japan’s support in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and said Mekong-Japan cooperation contributes to socio-economic development of member countries.
He proposed a focus on containing the pandemic and recovering the economy sustainably and inclusively. He stated that the Mekong-Japan cooperative strategy should base on three pillars: active and responsive economy; healthy, human-centered society; and green and digital Mekong.
Participating countries acknowledged Vietnam’s recommendations to further boost regional cooperation and prepare for the 13th Mekong-Japan summit scheduled for later this year.
