Vietnam rejects China’s violations of international law in the East Sea

(VOVWORLD) - Spokesperson for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang told reporters about Vietnam’s reactions to the US’s letter to the UN opposing China’s claim of sovereignty in the East Sea.

She said Vietnam has gained their attention after several UN member states circulated documents expressing their views regarding the recent situation in the East Sea, internationally known as South China Sea.
Vietnam's stance on the East Sea issue relating to sovereignty and judicial rights at sea is clear-cut, consistent, and has been repeatedly clarified. Once again Vietnam confirmed sufficient historical and legal evidence to prove its sovereignty over the Paracel (Hoang Sa), and the Spratly (Truong Sa) archipelagos in the East Sea as well as legal rights to Vietnam's territorial water seas which were defined in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
Hang said any activity relating to the two archipelagos without Vietnam’s permission is violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty. China and countries should act responsibly for peace, security, and stability in the East Sea.
