Vietnam, Singapore strengthen defense cooperation
(VOVworld) – Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Standing Secretary of Singapore’s Defense Ministry Chan Yeng Kit co-chaired a Vietnam-Singapore Defense Policy Consultation in Hanoi on Tuesday.

The two sides suggested increased defense cooperation in the coming years to match their strategic partnership. More priority will be given to the exchange of delegations, the maintenance of deputy ministerial dialogue, information sharing, mutual support in building the UN’s peacekeeping force, military medicine, and coordination at multilateral forums. General Vinh asked the two countries’ defense ministries to devise 3-year cooperation plans to effectively implement their signed agreements. The two sides also discussed East Sea issues and agreed that any disputes should be settled through peaceful measures and in accordance with international law. They also stressed the need to enhance solidarity and ASEAN’s central role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
