(VOVworld) - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and South African Vice President Cyril Ramaphosa discussed a number of measures to boost cooperation between the two countries during talks in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Minister Ramaphosa welcomed Hai’s official visit to South Africa, which he said holds significant meaning as the two nations develop comprehensive collaboration. The leaders agreed that there was untapped potential for Vietnamese-South African cooperation in various fields such as national defence, science and technology, shipbuilding, and economic and trade-investment, as well as agriculture, and aquatic breeding and processing. Both sides affirmed their determination to double two-way trade turnover, resume negotiations on anti-double taxation agreements and enhance cooperation in the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking. The two leaders also discussed cooperation at international forums, especially within the framework of the United Nations and the Non-aligned Movement.

The Deputy Prime Minister also met with the South African President, Jacob Zuma, and the Minister of Science and Technology and visited the Karan food processing company and the Denel National Defence Industry group. A memorandum of understanding of cooperation between Vietnam and South Africa in science and technology was signed during the visit.
