At the “Strategic Outlook: ASEAN” session, Deputy PM Binh said ASEAN is a strategic priority of Vietnam’s foreign policy, adding that Vietnam chose the theme “Cohesive and Responsive” for its chairmanship year to respond to a common concern of ASEAN members, who want to build a strong community in a fast changing world.
Mr. Binh said that as ASEAN Chair for 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, Vietnam will expand cooperation between ASEAN and the UN to support peace and security, promote the realisation of UN Sustainable Development Goals, and boost ASEAN’s role within multilateral forums.
