Vietnam to observe two-day national mourning for former Lao President

(VOVWORLD) - The Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front announced that General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, former President, former Prime Minister, former Deputy Prime Minister, and former Minister of National Defense of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, passed away on April 2, 2025.
To honor General Khamtay Siphandone and the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold a two-day national mourning on April 4-5, 2025.
During this time, all government agencies, public offices nationwide, and Vietnamese representative offices abroad will fly the national flag at half-mast with mourning ribbons. Public celebrations and entertainment activities will be suspended.
