(VOVworld) - Vietnam attaches importance to its comprehensive cooperation in numerous fields with the US, including defense and security. Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, told visiting US Under Secretary of Defense Michael Vickers on Tuesday that bilateral defense and security cooperation has covered maritime search, disaster mitigation, and humanitarian programs. 

Tuan expressed his hope of extending ties to new fields in the future.

Vickers hailed Vietnam’s past cooperation. He was confident that during the upcoming Vietnam visit by the US Secretary of Defence, the two countries will specify new cooperative fields such as maritime security and drug-related crime. Vickers praised Vietnam’s enthusiastic search for the missing Malaysian airplane, which reflects Vietnam’s commitment to regional solidarity and peace.
