(VOVworld) – Influential US Senator John McCain has noted the need for Vietnam and the US to capitalize on their potential in economics, education, science, technology, energy, security, defense, and people-to-people exchanges.

Meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, Senator McCain, who is Chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, urged closer cooperation to ensure peace, security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea with respect to international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Ambassador Vinh asked Senator McCain to continue his efforts for stronger Vietnam-US ties, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
