(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has affirmed that Vietnam values its comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia and cooperation between the two countries as Vietnam has pursued a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of relations.
Receiving Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Hanoi on Wednesday, Party leader Trong highlighted Vietnam’s major achievements in all aspects through its comprehensive reform process and Vietnam's position and prestige respected in the international arena.
Discussing with Minister Lavrov Vietnam's views on international issues of mutual concern, in line with Vietnam's consistent foreign policy, including dialogue, negotiation and peaceful settlement of differences and disputes, Party General Secretary Trong said Vietnam is ready to contribute to promoting peace, stability and international cooperation.
Minister Lavrov praised the political position and leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in national development, foreign policy, including relations with the Soviet Union in the past and the Russian Federation today. He said Russia values the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam, supports ASEAN's centrality in the region, and thanked Vietnam's contribution to promoting Russia-ASEAN relations.
